Batu Nunggul is an advanced dive site off the east coast of Nusa Penida, where a submerged rocky formation creates a gathering point for marine life in the nutrient-rich waters of the Lombok Strait. The site features steep rocky walls and boulders dropping into deep water, covered in barrel sponges, gorgonians, and encrusting corals. During the cool season from July to October, the cold upwellings bring mola mola to the site, while reef sharks, eagle rays, and large schools of fish are present throughout the year. The topography creates sheltered spots behind rocks where divers can watch the current-driven action unfold. Severe thermoclines and strong currents are characteristic of this exposed site, making it exclusively for experienced divers with excellent buoyancy control. Batu Nunggul offers the raw, wild diving experience that draws adventurous divers to Nusa Penida's eastern seaboard.
