PMG (Pura Mas Gading) is an advanced dive site on the east coast of Nusa Penida, named after a Hindu temple on the clifftop above. The site features a steep rocky slope dropping into deep blue water, where cold upwellings from the Lombok Strait create the nutrient-rich conditions that draw mola mola (ocean sunfish) during the cool season from July to October. The reef is dotted with barrel sponges, gorgonian fans, and hard coral formations that provide shelter for reef sharks, moray eels, and schools of surgeonfish. Sharp thermoclines and strong currents are common, requiring advanced skills and proper thermal protection. PMG is less visited than the more famous mola mola sites on Nusa Penida, offering a chance to encounter these enigmatic creatures in a quieter setting with the added atmosphere of the temple overlooking the dive entry.
