SD (Sekolah Dasar, meaning 'primary school' in Indonesian) is an advanced dive site on the northwest coast of Nusa Penida, named after a nearby school on the clifftop. The site features a steep reef slope dropping into deep water, where cold upwellings and currents create productive conditions for marine life. The reef is home to mola mola during the cool season, manta rays during the wet season, and healthy populations of reef sharks, sweetlips, and schooling fish year-round. The coral coverage includes hard corals, barrel sponges, and scattered soft coral formations on the rocky substrate. Strong currents and unpredictable conditions make SD a challenging dive requiring advanced skills and a knowledgeable guide. The site offers a different perspective on Nusa Penida diving, with the potential for exciting pelagic encounters in a less-visited area of this remarkable island.
