Tugu is an advanced dive site on the east coast of Nusa Penida, offering dramatic wall diving in an area renowned for encounters with oceanic megafauna. The site features a steep drop-off plunging from a shallow coral reef into deep oceanic water, with the wall adorned in black corals, gorgonian fans, and sponges. Cold upwellings bring nutrient-rich water that attracts mola mola during the cool season, while reef sharks and eagle rays cruise along the wall year-round. The shallow reef top provides a colorful safety stop area with healthy table corals and schools of tropical fish. Significant currents and severe thermoclines—temperatures can drop by 10°C within a few meters—make Tugu a challenging dive that demands experience and proper thermal protection. The reward is world-class big-animal diving in a spectacular deep-water setting.
