Batu Putih, meaning White Rock, is an advanced dive site in the Secret Gilis of Southwest Lombok, named for a distinctive white limestone outcrop that marks a sloping reef descending to 20 meters. The reef features excellent hard coral coverage including massive brain corals and intricate table coral formations that create shelter for a diverse community of reef inhabitants. Cuttlefish are frequently encountered here, displaying their mesmerizing color-changing abilities as they hunt among the coral heads. Moray eels peek from crevices, octopuses camouflage against the rocky substrate, and cleaning stations attract groupers and sweetlips to have parasites removed. The underwater landscape alternates between coral gardens and sandy patches where garden eels sway in the gentle current. Batu Putih offers an intimate and uncrowded diving experience that showcases the healthy reef ecosystems thriving in Lombok's protected southwestern waters.
