Gili Sarang is a thrilling dive site in the Belongas Bay area of south Lombok, where a submerged island creates a magnet for pelagic marine life in the deep waters of the Alas Strait. The site features dramatic rocky formations with walls, overhangs, and swim-throughs covered in soft corals, sea fans, and sponges. Schooling hammerhead sharks are the headline attraction, particularly during the cooler months, while grey reef sharks, white-tip reef sharks, and eagle rays are present year-round. The deep water surrounding the rock brings occasional visits from manta rays and even whale sharks. Strong, unpredictable currents and a remote location make Gili Sarang an advanced dive requiring careful planning and an experienced guide. For divers willing to accept the challenge, it offers some of the most exhilarating shark diving in the Indonesian archipelago.
