Mawan is an exhilarating dive site in Komodo National Park, located near the southern islands where nutrient-rich cold upwellings from the Indian Ocean create exceptionally productive waters. The site features a rocky reef with dramatic pinnacles and boulders covered in soft corals and sea fans, surrounded by strong currents that attract impressive pelagic life. Giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, and reef sharks hunt around the pinnacles, while manta rays are frequent visitors during the wet season. The coral coverage includes vibrant dendronephthya soft corals in vivid pinks and purples, along with healthy hard coral gardens in the shallower zones. Currents can be powerful and unpredictable, making Mawan suitable only for experienced divers who are rewarded with some of Komodo's most action-packed underwater encounters.
