Tatawa Besar is a spectacular drift dive in Komodo National Park, known for its pristine hard coral gardens and vibrant reef fish life. The site features a long sloping reef covered in an extraordinary density of healthy table corals, staghorn corals, and massive brain corals—some of the best hard coral coverage in all of Komodo. Strong currents sweep divers along the reef, passing through clouds of anthias, fusiliers, and surgeonfish, while green turtles graze on the shallows and white-tip reef sharks cruise below. The shallow reef top between 3 and 8 meters is particularly stunning with sunlight illuminating the coral gardens. Timing the dive with the right current is essential, and when conditions align, Tatawa Besar offers one of the most visually breathtaking drift dives in Indonesia.
