Overhang is a beginner-friendly dive site on the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, featuring a prominent rocky overhang between 16 and 20 meters that creates a sheltered ceiling habitat rich in marine life. The underside of the overhang is carpeted with plumose anemones, jewel anemones, and dead man's fingers soft coral in a stunning display of temperate invertebrate diversity. Lobsters and squat lobsters shelter in the overhang's crevices, while schools of pollack and wrasse patrol the water column in front. The overhang creates interesting light effects as shafts of sunlight penetrate from above, illuminating the anemone garden in natural spotlights. Beyond the main overhang, the reef continues as a boulder-strewn slope with excellent critter-hunting opportunities among the kelp holdfast and rocky crevices. Overhang is one of the Dingle Peninsula's most visually impressive sites, where the concentrated invertebrate life beneath the rock shelf creates an underwater scene rivaling any tropical soft coral garden.
