The Inner Reef is an advanced dive site on the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, featuring an extensive rocky reef system between 18 and 33 meters that hosts some of the area's most impressive marine life. The deeper sections reveal large gorgonian sea fans, dense fields of ross coral, and impressive cup coral colonies that indicate the strong influence of Atlantic currents bringing nutrients from the deep ocean. Conger eels of considerable size inhabit the reef's deeper crevices, while schools of pollack, mackerel, and the occasional tope shark patrol the water column. The reef structure is complex, with overhangs, swim-throughs, and chimney formations that provide habitat for lobsters, crawfish, and squat lobsters. The depth range and potential for current make The Inner Reef suitable for experienced divers, but those who venture here are rewarded with a temperate reef ecosystem of genuine quality. This is diving Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way at its most impressive.
