Square Rock is a beginner-friendly dive site on the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, centered on a distinctive square-shaped boulder formation between 12 and 22 meters that serves as a focal point for marine life. The rock's flat surfaces and sheltered overhangs host dense populations of jewel anemones and dahlia anemones, while the surrounding boulders create a labyrinth of swim-throughs and sheltered pockets. Lobsters are commonly found beneath the overhangs, and conger eels peer from the darker crevices. Cuckoo wrasse in their brilliant blue and orange mating colors are a photographic highlight, as are the large ballan wrasse that patrol the reef. The sandy patches between rocks harbor flatfish and occasionally thornback rays resting on the bottom. Square Rock's combination of interesting topography, accessible depth range, and reliable marine life encounters makes it one of the Dingle Peninsula's most popular and rewarding dive sites for divers of all experience levels.
