The Ridge Holes is a beginner-friendly dive site on the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, where a series of holes and depressions in a rocky ridge between 10 and 22 meters create fascinating mini-ecosystems teeming with life. Each hole acts as a natural fish trap, concentrating crabs, lobsters, and small fish in sheltered pockets surrounded by anemone-encrusted walls. The ridge itself is covered with kelp at shallower depths, transitioning to dense invertebrate cover below the kelp line where jewel anemones, sponges, and tunicates compete for space. Cuttlefish are regularly spotted hovering above the holes during summer months, and dogfish rest in the sandy depressions. The site's name perfectly describes its appeal—a ridge of interconnected pools and holes that reward careful exploration at every turn. The Ridge Holes offers an excellent example of how Ireland's rocky Atlantic reefs create diverse habitats within compact dive sites.
