Santa Caterina is an advanced dive site off the southeastern coast of Sardinia near Villasimius, within the Capo Carbonara Marine Protected Area. The site plunges to 40 meters along a dramatic wall that drops from the rocky shoreline into deep blue water. The wall is festooned with massive gorgonian fans — some over a meter across — in shades of red, yellow, and white, creating one of Sardinia's most spectacular underwater gardens. The deeper sections reveal precious red coral colonies thriving in the dim light. Pelagic visitors are common here: eagle rays, large barracuda schools, and occasional tuna pass through the blue water beyond the wall. The site's depth and exposure to currents limit it to experienced divers, but those who venture here discover one of the Mediterranean's finest wall dives in one of Italy's most strictly protected marine reserves.
