Sassone is a beginner-friendly dive site on Sardinia's southeastern coast near Cagliari, where a large rocky formation creates an accessible underwater playground in waters reaching 18 meters. The site's name — Big Rock — describes the main feature: a broad granite boulder surrounded by sandy seabed and Posidonia meadows. The rock's surface is a microcosm of Mediterranean life, with colorful sponges, anemones, and small gorgonians providing habitat for blennies, gobies, and nudibranchs. The surrounding sand hosts peacock wrasses, razorfish, and occasional cuttlefish. Schools of salema and two-banded bream circle the formation, while octopuses occupy dens at the boulder's base. The gentle conditions, moderate depth, and rich macro life make Sassone an excellent site for new divers and underwater photography enthusiasts exploring the waters south of Cagliari.
