LT221 is an advanced wreck dive site off southern Sardinia near Cagliari, where a World War II landing craft rests at 40 meters on a flat sandy bottom. The LT221, a military transport vessel, sank during wartime operations and now provides a fascinating window into mid-century naval history. The wreck lies upright, its ramp and cargo hold still recognizable despite decades of marine colonization. The metalwork is encrusted with gorgonians, sponges, and colonies of cup corals, while the interior shelters large conger eels, groupers, and schools of anthias. Octopuses hunt among the deck machinery, and nudibranchs dot the encrusted surfaces. The site's depth limits bottom time, making each dive a carefully planned exploration of different sections. The LT221 is one of several WWII wrecks that make the waters south of Cagliari a wreck diving destination of note.
