The Tank

The Tank is an advanced dive site in Aqaba, Jordan, featuring a sunken M42 Duster anti-aircraft vehicle that sits in shallow water at just 5 meters depth. Despite the minimal depth, the advanced rating acknowledges the overhead environment created by the tank's structure. The military vehicle has been underwater long enough for significant coral colonization — soft corals in pinks and purples drape the gun barrel and turret, while hard corals encrust the treads and hull. Schools of sergeant major fish swarm around the tank, lionfish lurk beneath the chassis, and blue-spotted stingrays rest in its shadow on the sand. The surrounding reef adds depth to the dive with coral gardens extending in all directions. The Tank is often combined with nearby sites for a multi-stop dive, and its photogenic military-meets-nature transformation makes it one of Aqaba's most Instagrammed underwater attractions.
