Mwanyaza South is a beginner-friendly dive site off Diani Beach in Kenya, forming the southern extension of the Mwanyaza reef complex. This section features slightly different topography from its northern counterpart, with larger coral formations and more pronounced overhangs that provide shelter for larger marine species. Groupers of substantial size inhabit the overhangs, while schools of snappers and fusiliers gather along the reef edge. The coral diversity is excellent, with fire corals, mushroom corals, and delicate lace corals adding variety to the dominant hard coral framework. Nudibranchs in vibrant colors dot the reef surfaces for attentive macro enthusiasts. The sandy areas between reef patches often reveal cuttlefish and squid, particularly during night dives when these cephalopods emerge to hunt. Mwanyaza South complements its northern neighbor, and together they provide a full day of varied Diani coast diving.
