Fly By Reef is an intermediate dive site near Koh Rong island off Sihanoukville, Cambodia, named for the fly-by visits from large pelagic fish that sweep past this current-washed reef. The site features a rocky reef with good coral coverage, including massive barrel sponges, sea fans, and branching hard corals. The currents that give the site its name also bring nutrients supporting a vibrant food chain — schools of fusiliers and jacks attract larger predators including cobia, barracuda, and occasional reef sharks. The reef's intermediate depth allows comfortable dive times while providing enough current for exciting drift diving when conditions are right. Nudibranchs and other macro subjects are abundant for photographers willing to look closely at the reef surfaces between pelagic sightings. Fly By Reef represents the developing potential of Cambodia's offshore diving, where relatively unexplored reefs offer the possibility of unexpected marine encounters.
