Sithanane Pare is a beginner-level dive site in the Trincomalee area of northeastern Sri Lanka, reaching 18 metres over a reef system that offers a relaxed introduction to the region's excellent marine environment. The site's manageable depth and typically calm conditions make it suitable for newly certified divers while still providing enough interest to engage more experienced visitors. The reef consists of coral formations developing on a rocky substrate, with the structure providing diverse habitats within a comfortable diving envelope. The terrain includes small walls, coral bommies, and sandy patches that create varied environments supporting different marine communities. Navigation is straightforward, with the reef features serving as natural landmarks. Coral health in the Trincomalee area is generally good, benefiting from clear water, warm temperatures, and lower human impact than the more developed southwestern coast. Hard corals including table corals, branching corals, and massive species are well represented, while soft corals add vivid colour to the sheltered overhangs. The reef's depth range allows divers to observe how coral communities change with depth and light availability. The fish community is diverse and colourful, with Indian Ocean reef species well represented. Butterflyfish in several species patrol the coral formations, while large schools of fusiliers create moving silver clouds above the reef. Moray eels peer from rocky crevices, and groupers of various sizes occupy territorial positions. Sea turtles and reef sharks are occasional visitors. The Trincomalee diving season runs from April to September during the southwest monsoon, when the east coast enjoys calm seas and excellent visibility often reaching 15 to 25 metres. Water temperatures are warm at 28 to 30 degrees, making light exposure protection sufficient. Sithanane Pare is a reliable and enjoyable dive that showcases the quality of northeastern Sri Lanka's marine environment.
