Big Duck Island in Nova Scotia is an advanced dive site exposed to the open Atlantic, offering dramatic underwater terrain shaped by centuries of wave action. Massive granite boulders create a labyrinth of channels, swim-throughs, and overhangs that drop to significant depth. The exposed position brings cold, nutrient-rich water supporting lush kelp forests and dense colonies of anemones. Large Atlantic lobsters and Jonah crabs inhabit the crevices, while schools of pollock and mackerel patrol the open water above. Grey seals from nearby colonies are frequent and curious visitors. The site's exposure means conditions must be carefully assessed before diving.
