Hell Rackets in Nova Scotia is a beginner-friendly dive site with a dramatic name that belies its calm, accessible diving conditions. The site features a rocky bottom with interesting geological formations created by glacial action, including smoothed granite ledges and erratic boulders. Cold-water marine life thrives here — sea stars in multiple species and colours, dense urchin barrens, and lobsters sheltering under every suitable overhang. The protected location means easy conditions for exploring this compact but rewarding site. Night dives are particularly popular as nocturnal species including decorator crabs and octopuses emerge from hiding.
