Walton Gypsum Quarry in Nova Scotia is an intermediate freshwater dive in a flooded former gypsum quarry. The abandoned quarry has filled with clear water, creating an unusual inland diving destination with interesting geological features. The quarry walls reveal layers of gypsum, limestone, and other sedimentary rock in cross-section, providing a geology lesson with every dive. Submerged quarrying equipment and structures add artificial reef interest to the site. Freshwater species including perch and bass inhabit the quarry, and the consistently clear water provides excellent visibility. The controlled environment and interesting features make this a popular training and exploration site.
