Shrimp Cave is an advanced cave dive near Nisyros reaching 40 meters, named for the exceptional populations of cave-dwelling shrimp found inside. The cave system extends deep into the volcanic rock with passages and chambers where hundreds of specialised shrimp species thrive in the dark, mineral-rich environment. The cave walls display volcanic mineral deposits in unusual colours, and thermal influence from Nisyros's caldera may warm the deeper sections. Beyond the shrimp, lobsters and other cave-adapted crustaceans inhabit the passages. Proper cave diving training, powerful lights, and guideline deployment are essential. A remarkable speleological dive showcasing the unique biology of Nisyros's volcanic cave systems.
