Bunutan is a shore-accessible dive site near Amed on Bali's northeast coast, offering a volcanic black sand slope that descends to 40 meters with excellent macro diving opportunities. The site is known for its rich critter life on the dark substrate—leaf scorpionfish, ribbon eels, frogfish, and nudibranchs are regularly found among the sparse coral and rubble. Garden eels create swaying colonies in the sandy patches, while blue-spotted stingrays and octopus hide in the shallows. The deeper sections feature larger coral formations with sweetlips, groupers, and lionfish. A resident school of bumphead parrotfish sometimes passes through in the early morning. Easy shore entry and calm conditions make Bunutan accessible for divers of moderate experience, though the best macro finds are often in the deeper zones. The site pairs well with Amed's other dive sites for a full day of diverse underwater exploration.
