King Abdullah Reef is an intermediate dive site in Aqaba, Jordan, named in honor of the Jordanian monarch who championed the country's marine conservation efforts. The reef features a well-developed coral ecosystem descending to 30 meters, with an impressive diversity of hard and soft corals forming a layered underwater garden. Large table corals create canopy-like structures sheltering schools of glassfish and anthias, while the deeper sections host impressive gorgonian fans and black coral trees. The reef is known for its healthy fish populations — groupers, Napoleon wrasse, and large parrotfish are regularly encountered, reflecting the benefits of Aqaba's marine protection policies. The site also features several artificial structures placed to enhance reef development. King Abdullah Reef exemplifies how thoughtful conservation can maintain a thriving marine ecosystem alongside a developing tourism industry.
