Igloo is an intermediate dive site off the Diani coast in Kenya, named for the dome-shaped coral formation that is the site's centerpiece. This massive coral structure rises from the reef at around 15 meters, creating an igloo-like overhang that shelters a variety of marine life underneath. The interior of the dome is a gathering point for sweetlips, snappers, and large groupers, while the exterior surface is encrusted with colorful sponges and soft corals. The surrounding reef extends to 20 meters over a landscape of additional coral formations and sandy channels. Lionfish are commonly found under the overhangs, and moray eels occupy crevices throughout the reef. The site's moderate depth allows comfortable bottom times for extended exploration, and the igloo formation provides an excellent focal point for underwater photography. Igloo demonstrates the fascinating natural architecture that coral growth can produce over centuries.
