Swahili Nurseries is a beginner-friendly dive site off the Diani coast in Kenya, designed and managed as a coral reef restoration and nursery area. The site operates at a shallow 12 meters maximum depth, where underwater coral nursery structures — metal frames and rope tables — host fragments of fast-growing coral species being cultivated for transplantation to degraded reef areas. The nursery attracts an impressive diversity of marine life despite its artificial origins: juvenile fish of dozens of species use the structures as shelter, cleaning stations form naturally, and the growing coral attracts herbivorous fish that help maintain the nursery's health. Visiting this site offers divers a unique opportunity to see marine conservation in action while enjoying a comfortable, shallow dive. The project represents the Swahili coast's commitment to reef restoration and provides an educational diving experience that highlights the fragility and resilience of coral ecosystems.
